Regarding
Regarding is a tool I built to close the gap between caring about a policy issue and actually doing something about it.
The mechanism it uses is writing to your MP. This is one of the most direct levers available to ordinary citizens in the UK system: MPs represent their constituencies, they track correspondence volumes, and a sustained number of letters on the same issue creates real pressure.
The problem is that almost no one uses it. The barrier is not apathy; it is friction. Most people who feel strongly about NHS dentistry, carers' allowance or energy bills will never write a letter, because they are not sure where to start, don't know how to frame the ask, and don't have the time to research what a credible ask even looks like.
How it works
Regarding removes that friction. You enter your postcode and choose an issue, and the tool writes you a personalised first draft, pre-addressed to your MP, grounded in verified sources and structured around a specific, legitimate parliamentary ask. You read it, edit anything you want to change, and send it from your own email app.
The whole thing takes a few minutes. We never see your email address, and we never send anything on your behalf.
Design commitments
- No accounts. Accounts create friction and raise data questions that a tool like this shouldn't have to answer.
- Disclosed, sourced evidence. The evidence base for every issue is published, because the ask has to be credible to be useful.
- Non-partisan issues. Each one is chosen because it has a clear, checkable accountability question, not because of the political valence of the answer.
- Transparent updates. When the evidence changes, we update the issue and publish a note explaining exactly what changed and why, rather than silently refreshing the content or leaving stale information up.
At launch
Regarding launched with live issues across areas including NHS dental access, carers' allowance, energy standing charges, social housing, violence against women and girls, and climate.
The longer-term aim is to build a well-trafficked, trusted resource that makes contacting your MP a routine act of civic participation, rather than something reserved for people who already know how the system works.
Regarding uses AI to personalise each draft, and AI was central to how I built it. I've written about that on my AI experience page.
